Dubai Canvas 2018 – 3D Art Festival

‘Endangered Species’; 12′ x 18′

Dubai Canvas, La Mer – Dubai, UAE

It’s always a pleasure to reunite with friends and colleagues at street art festivals, especially across the globe in locations like Dubai!  Back for my third year at the premiere street art festival of the Middle East, Dubai Canvas at La Mer continued it’s tradition of showcasing top street art and 3d anamorphic works by artists from around the world.

This year I was pleased to conduct a community painting project with an all girl team of talented Emirati students from Zayed University. Each a graphic design major in their final years of their program, Alia, Meera, Fatima, Shaikha and Elle joined me in creating an optical illusion titled ‘Endangered Species’. We worked for 3 days to make this painting, which was designed to teach a variety of painting and drawing techniques for the students. Just in time for International Women’s Day, we concluded the project with a deeper understanding of anamorphic perspective and how it works.

Some unique additions to this year’s festival included works by Mr. Doodle, Case Maclaim, Tom Bob and Tape Over Berlin. Check out this article from Widewalls that recaps highlights of the event: https://www.widewalls.ch/dubai-canvas-3d-art-festival-2018/
