Just back last month from a fantastic trip where Team 3D were at it again, creating a one of kind 3D street painting in Croatia for luxurious Valamar Hotels & Resorts in Istria. Our destination was the beautiful seaside city of Poreč, known for it’s Roman / Venetian roots and Adriatic culture.
Valamar commissioned me to create a painting showcasing their newest property launch: Valamar Isabella Island Resort on the Sv. Nikola Island, just a short hop by boat from Poreč. Set for opening in 2015, this resort promises to be a fabulous location for any relaxing vacation getaway, with private guest houses, a castle and secluded beaches to sun yourself on.
Team 3D artist Julio Jimenez assisted me in the completion of the work for the weekend, where large crowds strolling on the promenade stopped by to take photos of friends and family interacting with the art work. A smashing hit, especially when Valamar mascot Maro showed up to entertain the kids.
We had a lot of fun painting on the Poréc promenade and certainly found Croatia to be a gem in the Mediterranean landscape. It’s got all the offerings – sites and flavors – of northern Italy but less crowds. Not ones to shy away from an adventure, we drove down the coast to neighboring towns Rovinj and Pula – both exceptional in beauty and traveler enjoyments. You won’t go hungry in Istria as olive oil, tartufi (truffles), fresh seafood and Malvasia wine (one of my favorites!) are abundant, making for some delectable culinary experiences. The Pula coliseum is well worth the visit and Rovinj is stunning for a sunset meal by the sea.
Many thanks to all the wonderful friends we met in Poréc as their hospitality and warmth overwhelmed us. Special thanks to Elizabet, Dennis and Vlatka for taking such good care of us; and everyone at Valamar Riviera for really showing us the best of Croatia – both inside and out!
